Exploration ~ Kelvin

I have been asked on a number of occasions, if I set out on my shoots with certain concepts or images in mind, specifically in relation to locations.

The simple answer is no. I don’t have anything in mind. I go to a particular location and I shoot the couple against a backdrop that catches my fancy. Hence, I find it a big challenge to revisit places that I have shot in. Inevitably, I get reminded of the shots I have done there and I cannot help but want to see things the way I did previously. Having said that, because, what I do is bridal photography, and because we live on a small little island, I have willed myself into not taking the easy way out.  I try to explore every facet of a location. It’s “milked” to death before I move on to another location for my shoots. Very often, I do return to these locations months later but by then, there is a new perspective on the place and I feel and see it differently from months back.

I liken this to song-writing, the possibilities for new images at a finite number of locations, like song composing, is infinite. There are way too many variables. =)

Happy shooting people.

  1. thanks for sharing… 🙂

  2. Thanks for this post. I’ve been wondering how a location can be used to its maximum potential for a long time 🙂

    • Hiya!

There are quite a number of variables… the time of the day, shooting it from a high or low angle, using a tele or wide angle lens, how cloudy or even windy the day is… they all change your perspective.

      • Oh I see. Thanks for sharing Kelvin! I’ve always wanted to try something like that, but just don’t know how. Maybe I’ll try it someday.

  3. hi Kelvin, your pixs have never stopped to inspire me. Thanks for sharing all your beautiful works with us. Btw, if you ever need an assistant, I’m most pleased to volunteer my time to tag along with you in the hope that I can learn a thing or two from you. Have a great day!!
